The Dog Course is an in-depth look at dog body language and behaviour. It goes into a LOT of detail and is useful for professionals, but uses everyday language and real life stories so is accessible to all. It combines knowledge gained from thousands of dogs, but is mostly told through my most precious teachers of all – my own dogs, and combines 25 years of videos and photos of them, along with videos from other dog trainers and behaviourists.
Why did I make this course? - Over the last 20+ years of working professionally in reward-based dog training and behaviour I’ve worked with everyone from behaviour clients to those with new puppies, rescue dogs to sports dogs, pet dog people to coaching and mentoring dog trainers and behaviourists. I've also worked to help vets and other professionals understand the dogs they treat and there is one thing that they have ALL needed to learn… to be able to read and understand dogs better. My dream has been a course that could package as much of my 25 years of knowledge and experience as possible into an in-depth but easy to understand course... THIS is that course.
Here are just some of the things you'll discover...
- How do dogs ask for something?
- Why do dogs fold their ears inside out?
- Why you shouldn't ignore a nose lick
- The 5 reasons dogs pant - and how to tell the difference
- Why you should always pay attention if a dog suddenly shuts their mouth
- Why do dogs yawn?
- Recognising a micro-snarl
- Why a head turn towards you means something VERY different to a head turn away
- How does a dog's foot show they're worried, or what does it mean if they put their foot on a ball and how is that totally different to if they put their foot on another dog... or you?
- Over 45 minutes covering the multitude of different ways dogs use their tails (you can view this for free in the Tails webinar) but THEN we go on to Tails part 2 where we look at lots of examples to learn to read how they use them in everyday life.
- We learn that raised hackles don't just mean a dog is angry and why fur ripples might require a vet
- What is a shake off and when do they do it?
- Why a bow might not be a play bow
- The many reasons why dogs roll over and what they mean
- What we can learn from shifts in body weight, and how we can communicate using our body weight
- Learn to recognise if your dog is a bully
- How the concept of personal space relates to dogs... and where a lot of people are going wrong
- How dogs subtly but firmly say "No really... leave me alone."
- How your dog is feeling if they tip their hips
- What body position you should take immediate notice of, and possibly do something about
- Which body position I never allow my dogs to do... and why
- What body position can be rude and bullying... and how handling dogs this way gets so many people bitten
- Which dogs are just 'pure gold'... and why
